Introducing Poko's new Light Hydrating Moisturiser

Sometimes, a heavy moisturiser might not make the cut especially if your skin is on the oilier side. This often means that you tend to use lighter options. However, lighter, non-occlusive moisturisers might not give your skin the hydration it needs. Enter the Light Hydrating Moisturiser, the latest offering from Poko. It's right there in the name: light enough to suit people with oily skin.

This moisturiser is also packed full of natural humectants – namely fructose and urea. Together, these ingredients work to boost your natural moisture barrier, while gently hydrating your skin. The Light Hydrating Moisturiser from Poko offers a happy compromise: perfectly balanced skin, with no clogged, enlarged pores.

But is it really different from other, lighter moisturisers? Does it work as a CC cream option for people with oily skin? Having put this moisturiser through its paces, we're happy to answer all your questions in this comprehensive review!

The Light Hydrating Moisturiser – yet another Poko-perfect product?

As a luxury skincare brand, Poko has done it all – from the perfect cleanser, to multiple moisturising options. Their Light Hydrating Moisturiser is the latest addition to this lineup, promising healthier, more hydrated skin in a lightweight formulation. Does it make a dewy splash? Well, yes, it's definitely a welcome addition to the world of moisturisers.

It's no surprise that finding the perfect moisturiser can be different. No two skin types are the same, with allergies, skin types, and moisture levels to consider before making a purchase. In fact, if you have oily, acne-prone, or sensitive skin, you'll know how difficult this can be. Too thick and occlusive, and you'll be plagued with enlarged pores, breakouts, and redness for days. However, sometimes, lighter options just aren't hydrating enough.

Thankfully, the Light Hydrating Moisturiser from Poko strikes a happy medium – especially for people whose skin requires a more lightweight option. While fairly light in texture, it's packed with hydrating humectants. These ingredients protect your skin against dryness and dehydration, staving off flakiness and premature signs of ageing. The humectants also work to boost your skin's natural moisture barrier, which ensures better, healthier skin.

What's in this moisturiser?

Earlier, we mentioned that this moisturiser contains multiple humectants. But which ones, exactly? What else does the Light Hydrating Moisturiser contain, and what do they do for your skin? We're glad you asked, because we've got the ingredient inside scoop right here!

  • Allantoin: Sourced from comfrey root, allantoin keeps your skin soothed, balanced, and healthy.
  • Fructose: Here, fructose functions as a prebiotic. It's also a humectant, working to hydrate your skin with water absorbed from its surroundings.
  • Trehalose: As we age, our Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF) levels drop. Trehalose remedies this by replicating these factors, hydrating the skin from the inside out.
  • Urea: An NMF component, urea is a known humectant. It helps hydrate your skin by drawing in moisture from the environment, keeping your skin moisturised throughout the day.
  • Hyaluronic acid: In their Light Hydrating Moisturiser, Poko uses a HA option with smaller molecules. This means it penetrates the skin far easier, to boost moisture levels from within.

By combining these ingredients, Poko has formulated a truly unique moisturiser. While it's light and non-occlusive, it also does what it's supposed to – hydrating the skin and keeping it moisturised. Why not add it to your skincare routine, and see for yourself?

How do I use the Light Hydrating Moisturiser from Poko?

Thankfully, Poko's Light Hydrating Moisturiser is extremely easy to apply. However, we've got a few tips, so that you can make the most out of your moisturiser. Generally, we'd recommend applying it to cleansed skin – both in your AM and PM routine.

First, cleanse your skin, and follow this up with your lightweight serums. Once the serums are dry, follow this up with the Light Hydrating Moisturiser. For your AM routine, use an SPF before applying the rest of your makeup, and you're good to go! During your PM routine, however, finish this off with a good surface oil. This will keep your skin softer and more hydrated throughout the night!

In addition to this, feel free to use the Light Hydrating Moisturiser as a post-shave hydrator. Its light, non-occlusive texture will help soothe inflamed, irritated skin, without clogging your pores or causing ingrowns.

What did we think of the Light Hydrating Moisturiser?

Poko has done it yet again; we loved the Light Hydrating Moisturiser. It didn't feel heavy or occlusive on our skin, and absorbed pretty quickly after application. This left us free to continue the rest of our skincare routine, with no time wasted on waiting for it to dry. We also loved how light it was – no chance of clogged pores or breakouts here!

Upon application, it felt like it was working. We might be biased, but our skin looked and felt more hydrated after use. The moisturiser is light enough to reapply throughout the day, without it weighing down your skin, or blocking your pores. This is a great way to ward off mid-afternoon, snack-run dryness! Plus, it's formulated with skin-loving ingredients – no nasties found here, so reapplying won't harm your skin.

In addition to this, the moisturiser seemed to pull its weight as a base for foundation. Even after a day at the (home) office, there was no visible dullness, shine, or flaky foundation. While this is to be expected (after all, Poko promises up to 72 hours of moisture after application), it was nice to see a product that walks the talk. Therefore, you can colour us impressed that this lightweight, yet hydrating option really can do it all.

Would we recommend this moisturiser?

We love the Light Hydrating Moisturiser from Poko, and we think you will, too! This is especially true if you have acne-prone or oily skin. It's not at all cloying or occlusive, so it's completely safe to use, even if your pores are on the larger side. Plus, due to its skin-loving ingredients, it'll boost your skin's health while encouraging better hydration levels.

Use it on its own, under a layer of foundation, or just before bed – it's the perfect daily moisturiser. Like many of us, you might be on the hunt for a non-occlusive, yet hydrating moisturiser. We're happy to tell you to look no further: with the Light Hydrating Moisturiser, you've found your holy grail! Try it today to see and feel the difference.
